American Art Clay Company - Furnishing Your Child's First Dollhouse

Furnishing Your Child's First Dollhouse
Many of us think fondly of our first dollhouse. It might have been no more than a hand-me-down house from a parent or older sibling, but the experience of having your own miniature world to fill, room by room, with your own personal treasures is one of the most meaningful experiences for a young child. Some might make a comparison to the adult coming of age experience of the shift from paying rent to rent to own. Whether or not you decide buy your child a new dollhouse, or give them a family heirloom, one of the most important decisions you will make in the process is how to help your child fill the house with objects of love.

Starting with an empty dollhouse can be rather lonesome for a child. Initially, the task of filling the rooms of the house may seem daunting. From our experience in the craft industry, we have found that many children prefer to make their own furniture out of clay or wood, as opposed to purchasing manufactured furniture. Creating and designing dollhouse furniture can be a wonderful opportunity for parent and child bonding. It can also test the limits of patience and love during more detailed oriented tasks. Unfortunately, the rent to own furniture option is not yet available for children and parents seeking to equip a dollhouse for play. Regardless of your decision to make your own furniture or purchase certain fixtures, it will be an experience that your child will treasure forever.

It is a sign of the times that many children are now asking parents for a faux computer to finish off the living room or entertainment room of a dollhouse. We have heard about children and parents making their own computers out of clay and then debating over what brand should be painted on the computer once finished. If the option of rent to own computers or laptop rent to own were made as readily available to children seeking to fill their dollhouses, families would be able to try out several brands before deciding on which computer model to complete their small house within a house.

What house would be complete without appliances? Memories of a fist play kitchen often fall in line with memories of a dollhouse kitchen. Children today want to create a modern kitchen that emulates the sleek stainless steel look of their parents' modern kitchens. Many parents and children have created life-like appliances using clay and metallic silver paint to emulate this popular dramatic look. The finished product often reflects the high quality of many rent to own appliances readily available to consumers in the marketplace.

Parents often give us feedback that completing craft projects together, such as dollhouse furniture, is a rewarding experience for both parent and child. Room by room, hour-by-hour, chair by chair, it is a chance for parents to share their inner child and creativity with the small loved ones in their lives.
